Yame, Fukuoka · Japan
The complete TAE range
Four expressions, one region.
Compare three Yame matchas and one first-flush powdered sencha, each selected for a different way of drinking.
Why Yame? Uji introduced many people to matcha. Yame is a different tea tradition in southern Fukuoka—quieter, deeply respected in Japan, and the origin we chose for rounded depth, gentle sweetness and a balanced finish.
What makes Yame different?
A tea story dating to 1423
More than 600 years of tea craft.
Tea cultivation in Yame began in the early fifteenth century. Over generations, the region built a reputation for carefully made green tea and is especially renowned in Japan for refined shaded teas, including gyokuro.
Southern Fukuoka
A landscape that shapes the leaf.
Yame's tea districts sit among misty hills with generous rainfall, fertile soils and a meaningful difference between warm days and cool nights. These are conditions long associated with the region's deep, composed tea character.
Yame and Uji
Different traditions—not a quality ladder.
Uji is one of matcha's historic heartlands and deserves that reputation. Yame offers another expression of Japanese tea. We do not describe one as better; we chose Yame because the teas we tasted gave us the rounded body, gentle sweetness and balanced finish we wanted for TAE.
What that means in your cup
Depth without a harsh finish.
- Rounded green-tea depth rather than a thin first impression
- Gentle natural sweetness and balanced umami
- A smooth finish selected to avoid the bitterness many first-time drinkers expect
- A distinct expression for each ritual—from water to milk, recipes or powdered sencha
Chosen for the cup, not just the postcode. Origin matters, but harvest and preparation matter too. That is why every TAE has a clear purpose rather than one generic claim for the entire range.
